If teachers are plagued by students trying to use AI for everything, why not go back to written essays?
Their hands still work. You’re reading the paper whether it’s written or typed, right?
Not to be all ancient about it, but I definitely wrote most of my papers by hand growing up in the ‘90s.
I’m just wondering why we’re trying to find all kinds of secret workarounds when it seems like it would be so simple to say: No typed responses will be accepted.
And yes, I know the obvious response is:
“They’ll just use AI and then copy it by hand.”
But I actually retain more information when I copy something by hand. So even if they’re using AI and then writing the answer out themselves, aren’t they still potentially learning or retaining something?
Is that not at least a partial win?

The art of writing is taken for granted yet a simple solution to a lot of things past and present 📌
